Origin of the Vineyard
Valbuena 5º 2019 originates from the iconic 210-hectare Vega Sicilia estate, located between 720 and 930 meters above sea level. The vines, with an average age of 35 years, are planted at a density of 2,222 vines per hectare, encouraging a natural balance between vigor and concentration.
Harvest and Selection
Manual harvest in 12 kg boxes between September 21 and October 5, with a controlled yield of 3,800 kg/ha (equivalent to 26.6 hl/ha), ensuring high quality in each bunch.
Vinification and Aging
Alcoholic fermentation was carried out in stainless steel vats, followed by controlled malolactic fermentation in tanks. Aging—core to the Valbuena style—extends over five years in a combination of new and used French and American oak barrels (225 L) and 20,000-liter wooden vats. This progressive refining system tames the power and preserves freshness.

Cellaring Potential

Founded in 1864, Vega Sicilia is recognized worldwide as one of Spain's most prestigious and iconic wineries. Located in the Ribera del Duero region, its estate covers more than 1,000 hectares, 210 of which are dedicated to vineyards. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of between 700 and 930 meters above sea level, which imparts freshness and character to the grapes.

The combination of clay-limestone soils, with brown and alluvial areas, along with the moderate continental climate influenced by the Duero River, creates ideal conditions for cultivating the Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and Merlot varieties, used in the production of its iconic Valbuena 5º Año.
