Cune Imperial Gran Reserva 2017

Imperial Gran Reserva 2017, made by the reputable winery CVNE (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España), is an iconic red wine that represents the custom and goodness of the D.O.Ca. Rioja. Internationally recognized, this wine has consolidated its prestige after being awarded the “Best Wine of the World” in its 2004 vintage by Wine Spectator magazine. It is only made in exceptional vintages, which ensures its unique quality and texture.

Its combination is formed of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano, and 5% Mazuelo, from the most select vineyards of Rioja Alta. The grapes come from the Remedio and Encinas estates, discovered between 550 and 650 meters above sea level, in the vicinity of the Sierra de Toloño, as well as from the Barbarroja and Antoñana estates in Torremontalbo, with vines over 40 years old. The climate of the Atlantic and continental influence and the clay-limestone soils provide freshness and elegance to the wine.

The grapes are harvested by hand, in 20 kg boxes, with a double selection of the clusters, first in the vineyard and then in the winery. The grapes are transferred by gravity to small wooden vats, where they undergo cold maceration before beginning alcoholic fermentation at 28-29 °C with indigenous yeasts. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in concrete tanks, preserving the purity of the aromas. Subsequently, the wine ages for 24 months in new, single-use French (70%) and American (30%) oak barrels, and then rests in the bottle for at least 36 months in the winery's century-old cellars, purifying its structure and enhancing its complexity.

The result is a wine of great aromatic intensity and deep flavor, with a perfect balance between ripe fruit and the spicy and toasted notes of the oak. Its silky texture and long, elegant aftertaste make it an essential reference among long-aged wines.
