  • The liquid tale of a monastic mystery
Green Chartreuse was born in 1840 as a genteel version of the original Elixir Végétal from Grande Chartreuse, prepared by Carthusian monks using an ancestral formula of 130 botanicals. Its a natural green hue and powerful essence quickly made it an icon of mixology and fine liqueurs.
  • A symphony of 130 herbs and spices
Handcrafted at the Aiguenoire distillery in France, its complexity arises from a meticulous process of milling, distillation, and maceration of plants, flowers, barks, and roots. The secret recipe is known by only two monks.
  • Unique process, constant evolution
After distillation, Green Chartreuse is aged in large oak casks and continues evolving in the bottle. Its slow, deliberate process results in a liqueur of extraordinary aromatic depth and aging potential.
  • A classic at 55% ABV
More intense and drier than its yellow counterpart, this liqueur offers a bold, challenging sensory experience. Perfect as a digestif or in classic cocktails like the "Last Word," where it brings power, freshness, and unmistakable botanical complexity.
  • Unmistakable identity
Its natural green color, the bulb-neck bottle bearing the Grande Chartreuse seal, and its herbal intensity make it an eternal icon.

About the Winery

Chartreuse Diffusion is the commercial entity liable for producing Chartreuse liqueurs, whose origins date back to the 17th century at the Grande Chartreuse monastery in the French Alps. The Carthusian monks, also known as the Pères Chartreux, have guarded the original secret recipe of 130 plants and herbs for centuries.

Only two living monks know the exact formula for the liqueur. They grind the plants and oversee all the key stages of the process, from distillation to maceration and aging.

Currently, production takes place at the Aiguenoire distillery (Entre-Deux-Guiers, Isère, France), respecting the artisanal and spiritual tradition that has made Chartreuse an emblem of French liqueur.
