  • A rule-breaking edition
Heavy Vapours is an exceptional creation by Dr. Bill Lumsden, launched for Ardbeg Day 2023. A bold experiment that terminates the purifier from the still to unleash the heaviest whisky vapours.
  • Creative distillation without filters
Skipping the copper purifier disrupts the classic harmony between fruit and smoke, elevating Ardbeg’s peated profile to new heights of intensity, rawness, and complexity.
  • Dense and immersive nose
Notes of coal, tar, clove, and healing smoke emerge over a surprisingly fruity and spicy background — as if the peat had taken physical form.
  • A palate with extreme personality
Explosive and direct, marked by hot peat, stewed black fruits, a balsamic touch and hints of leather, damp earth, and burnt wood. Vibrant, powerful, and deeply emotional.
  • Only for true flavor explorers
Heavy Vapours doesn’t aim to please — it aims to make an impact. A bold, creative, and uncompromising expression, ideal for collectors and fans of cult whiskies.

About the Winery

The Ardbeg distillery was founded in 1815 on the south coast of Islay, Scotland, and is one of the most iconic in the region for its bold and heavily peated style. Over the centuries, it has survived closures, fires, and industry crises, establishing itself as an icon of artisanal Scotch whisky. Today, under the ownership of the LVMH group, it continues to produce small batches using traditional methods, combining innovation and authenticity.

Safe shipping and tracking at all times.

What flavor awaits me?

Appearance:
Deep golden color with coppery bronze highlights.

Nose:
Intense, smoky, and complex. Dominant notes of heavy smoke, tar, ash, and leather, enveloped in sweet hints of black licorice, dark chocolate, and roasted coffee. Nuances of dried chili, tire rubber, and a dark balsamic background are also present.

Palate:
Powerful and dense. It hits with a wave of creamy smoke and hot spices (black pepper, ginger). Notes of tar, pine resin, bitter cocoa, damp earth, and medicinal hints follow. The profile is less sweet than other Ardbegs, drier and smokier, with layers of complexity that are hard to forget.

Finish:
Long, dry, and enveloping, with lingering echoes of peat, charcoal, and an earthy-mineral aftertaste that lasts for minutes.
