About the Winery

Founded in 1729, Bodegas Alvear is the oldest winery in Andalusia and the second oldest in Spain, with a history that has lasted for almost three centuries. Since its beginnings, the winery has maintained its family character, with more than 50 members of the Alvear family involved in its current management. Located in the DO Montilla-Moriles, Alvear specializes in the Pedro Ximénez grape, the undisputed star of its sweet, fino, oloroso and amontillado wines. The winery's vineyards are grown on calcareous soils that give a unique character to its wines, differentiating between the "albarizas", which allow for balanced maturation, and the "ruedos", which offer an earlier harvest.
